Working Feedback presents – 11 Year old carer who helps her Mum before going to school.

A mother left with physical disabilities following a car crash has revealed her guilt over her 11-year-old daughter becoming her carer.

Jackie Milne, from London, relies completely on schoolgirl Charlie to run the household and look after her and her younger sister, Adele. Jackie has limited mobility and has to walk with a Zimmerframe following her accident in 2013.

The family shared their story on ITV to mark Carers Week, an annual awareness campaign to celebrate and recognise the vital contribution made by the UK’s 6.5million carers. Of that number, an estimated 175,000 are young carers under the age of 18.

Charlie appeared on today’s Lorraine with her mother and sister and told presenter Lorraine Kelly that she doesn’t feel any resentment about her situation – and even admitted she enjoys doing the ironing.

She said: ‘I don’t mind helping at all, it’s not a chore, I just get on with it as daily life.’
